Shopping advice

First long weekend was a huge success, despite the very Portland springtime weather (sun one minute, deluge the next, complete with thunder!). It was great to see old friends at all of our events, and make a few new converts, too.    This week we'll be at OHSU (next to the river-level tram stop), at WhiskeyFest NW, and at Crafty Wonderland, along with Hollywood Farmers Market. Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow night...cooking! The summer season officially kicked off last weekend at the Astoria Warrenton Crab, Seafood and Wine Festival, where we met a lot of old and new friends. We'll be all over the Pacific Northwest for the next few months, so feel free to stop and say hello and pick up a bottle or two of shrub for your summer events.

Well, it's 2014! Eleven days in, in fact. This week we've been cooking primarily citrus - grapefruit and page oranges direct from a LocalHarvest farm in Florida - but we're also going through some of the fruit we prepped this summer, so a big batch nectarine and some strawberry-basil got made up too. We learned last year that getting to the end of the year without a backlog is a bad plan, because you never know when you're going to get a freeze. We also learned to spring for the warmer storage unit. :) We're already booking up for summer...
